Jane Wei-Skillern: Keynote speaker of Social Innovation Symposium

Jane Wei-Skillern, Adjunct Associate Professor at the Center for Nonprofit and Public Leadership at the University of California, Berkeley, will speak about her research on leadership and management of social enterprises.  She has examined the topics of nonprofit growth and management of multi-site nonprofits, and for nearly a decade, has been focused on nonprofit networks.

Social Innovation Symposium

Discovering Social Innovation through Engaged Scholarship is a one-day research symposium, Friday March 20, 2015. It is led by graduate students from Tulane University, in collaboration with Tulane University’s Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (SISE) program and Tulane’s new Center for Social Innovation and Design Thinking.

Now in its fifth year of operation,TEDxTU will present a two-hour stage program featuring TED-style talks and TED videos.  Speakers will include some of New Orleans’s most active innovators, from entrepreneurs to educators, and public service professionals to students.  This year's theme is "Create Tomorrow".

NewDay Speaker: Matt Flannery, Co-Founder of Kiva

Matt Flannery, founder of Kiva, will be visiting Tulane in January as a feature expert in the NewDay Speaker Series.  Kiva is a non-profit that connects people through lending to alleviate poverty.  Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world.

Bringing some Payson-style logic to a national microfinance event


This past weekend, two other Tulane undergraduates and I attended the sixth annual Lend for America Summit. This year held at UC Berkeley, the Summit brings together students and professionals active in the American microfinance industry. This year’s theme was “Activating Impact”, with a focus on how to provide the highest quality services to micro-entrepreneurs in communities around the country.
